General Information
During the last decade the Central American Network for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (NeTropica) has promoted the formation of regional scientific consortiums that address common regional problems in the field of Tropical Medicine, Neglected Diseases and other Infectious Diseases.
These entities are a public health concern for the Central American population and include maladies such as Chagas disease, tuberculosis, snakebite envenomations, bacterial zoonosis, diarrheal diseases, and blood and arthropod transmitted viral infections, among others.
In this meeting, the fifth of a series, a group of recognized Latin American and European scientists will discuss the most recent advances in the experimental approaches to tackle these clinical entities in order to understand the basic mechanisms of these diseases and the strategies to control and prevent them.
These experimental approaches include front line research strategies like genomics, proteomics, transcriptomics, satellite monitoring of zoonosis, and modulation of immune responses by intracellular parasites, among others. In addition, discussions will be held at the meeting aimed at planning future activities to ensure the sustainability of the efforts carried out by NeTropica during the last 10 years.
