The Network for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases in Central America (NeTropica), and in coordination with the KIRT program, from Karolinska Institutet in Sweden, are inviting all Central American Researchers, interested in doing a two year Postdoctoral Research at Karolinska Institution, in the general fields of Infectious Biology, to apply with research projects considered as a priority for the Central American region.

NeTropica has identified active scientists in the field of Infectious Biology located at Karolinska in Sweden that are interested in receiving under their supervision Central American scientists to work in a two years length collaborative project.

NeTropica as the funding program will be covering in the form of a monthly stipend the living expenses and the round trip to Sweden, while the hosting institution will be providing the working facilities to the successful Postdoctoral researchers.

PostDoc Candidates can be from: Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama

WHAT DOES NeTropica OFFER?

1) A monthly stipend for a maximum of 2 years period, within the range of 192.000 – 216.000 Swedish Krona per year.

This stipend is expected to cover:

  • Hosting

  • Daily Expenses of the student

2) One round trip ticket from the country of origin of the candidate to Sweden.

WHAT ARE THE STUDENT REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS FELLOWSHIP?

  • Postdoctoral candidates must follow the instructions of the Application Form.

  • Candidates for fellowships should be nationals or permanent residents of one of the following Central American countries: Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama.

  • All Postdoctoral positions are for the Swedish Karolinska Institutet.

  • Candidates must have a very good command of the English language. 

  • Priority will be given to postdoctoral candidates that have graduated from their PhD or equivalent program no earlier than the year 2000 (7 years).

  • Candidates will have to go through a telephone or personal interview before being selected.

  • Once the fellowship is granted accepted researchers for the postdoctoral positions will have to follow the internal Postdoctoral registration steps of Karolinska Institutet, http://ki.se/postdoc.

WHERE AND WHEN TO SEND THE APPLICATION FOR THE FELLOWSHIP?

Postdoctoral position applications will run all year during 2008 with maximum application deadline 30/11/2008.

  • There are 2 Postdoctoral positions.

  • Successful Postdoctoral Fellows and Supervisors will be informed by letter during the period within 4 months of their application.

  • Positions are expected to start being filled within the period of March 2008 – 2009.

  • Positions are supported by NeTropica for the maximum length of two years.
